A BIG THANK YOU TO THE PARENT'S ASSOCIATION
MOCK INTERVIEWS ON 27TH NOVEMBER
Many thanks to the parents who organised and carried out the mock interviews that took place on Monday 27th November. The students really enjoyed doing the interviews and the learnt a lot from the constructive feedback. Many of our students are now doing interviews for European, UK, American and Irish Colleges and this practice run really helped them to fine tune their interview skills. The feedback given by the students was extremely positive and our LCVP students really benefited as they had their Leaving Certificate interviews that week! Our fifth and sixth year students really appreciate you giving your time for this worthwhile event. So do we!
THANK YOU TO OUR PAST PUPILS AND ALL THE DUBLIN COLLEGES WHO ATTENDED!
CAREER FAIR ON 4TH DECEMBER
This event was run for all our fourth, fifth and sixth year student. We were lucky enough to have UCD, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin City University, NUI Maynooth, DIT, Inchicore PLC, National College of Ireland, Sallynoggan PLC, IT Tallaght, SOLAS and many other Colleges attend our Career Fair in the General Purpose Hall. The students were able to collect literature and speak to the admission officers. It was a great opportunity for our students to collect additional information after visiting the open days and lunchtime talks.
PAST PUPILS ADVICE CLINIC
One of the best ways we learn is through talking to others about their experiences. It was amazing to see the turnout of past pupils on the night. We set up the rooms in the extension wing and we were lucky enough to have past pupils come in to speak about their courses. The courses varied from engineering/ science to early childhood education. We had a vast array of students representing the massive variety of courses that our students are doing. Thanks for helping us and coming in on the night. It was lovely to see a musical fourth year connect with our past pupil and find out about BIMM. It is all about the students connecting and learning from the past pupils. Thanks everyone!

UPDATES!!
Guidance update
Lunch time career talks are finished until the Summer Term.
Well done to those who sacrificed their lunch time to attend the career talks during this term These speakers included representatives from Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, Dublin Institute of Technology, Dublin City University, Institute of Technology, Tallaght, Institute of Art and Design in Dun Laoghaire and many more. The admission officers were very impressed with your dedication and the feedback has been extremely positive.
OPEN DAYS UPDATE
It was great to see how many fourth, fifth and sixth years have been attending the Open Days held on Saturdays over this term. All fourth, fifth and sixth years have been getting reminders and received the schedule of open days by email at the very start of this term. Students have been attending their chosen course lectures and researching their courses of interest. It is ideal to carry out this research well in advance of filling out their CAO forms. Many fourth years also attended NCAD and this is ideal as it gives you an insight into how much work is involved when applying to Art College. A portfolio needs to be started well in advance. The fourth years are researching courses before choosing their subjects as they realise that picking the correct subjects has an impact on their career choices later on!!!
DATS
All fourth years have got their DATS results back. They all had ten minute meetings where everyone got the opportunity to discuss individual subject choices. This was a very worthwhile experience. All the complete DATS reports are being posted to parents with the Christmas reports.

DATS for Transition Years
All fourth years will be doing their DATS testing on Friday 5th October. Students have already been given information on the DATS and will meet with Ms Ahern or Ms Kenny for feedback. These one to one meetings last for ten minutes and we will be able to advise you on subject choice and explain your top strengths. The students will be doing seven tests and will get these results sent home to their parents. Everyone is allowed home on Friday after the DATS are finished.

Welcome to the Guidance Blog
29th August 2017.
We wanted to use this site as a way to communicate with our students. We are setting up year groups within the email system. This will allow much better communication. We will send group emails to you when we access new information. Guidance information will be posted regularly here too. We will send a list of open day events. Most of the College Open Days are on during the first term. They are during weekends and it is important to attend and ask questions and research as much as you can about the Colleges. Sixth years will be having one to one meetings to prepare for the higher options career day on 15th September. The Parents' evening on Monday evening, (4th September) will involve a short presentation by the guidance department on the CAO system. At the moment we are contacting all our sixth years that have just left to make sure that everyone is sorted and happy. They did very well and most of them seem to have got what they were hoping for. Please start making appointments!
